The theme for this month is

Home, Family, the Past & Emotions

Cancer's abode is not necessarily the place in which most of the other Zodiac signs (especially the air signs) care to dwell.  Yet,  during this most recent Mercury Retrograde in Cancer, it is where we all found ourselves, whether we wished to be there or not.

True to the nature of the Mercury Retrograde, where we're prone to re-think, re-do, re-generate and anything that begins with re-, I have decided to change the format of my newsletter to that of an ezine.  For some of you, the newsletter was long enough.  However, in these quickly changing times there are so many major changes transpiring around the world of which most of us would not otherwise be aware without little newsletters and ezines such as SAS Astro-News Ezine.

As my first order of business, I'd like to let you know about a schedule change:  I've also decided that the ezine will be released each month on or just after the full moon for that month - except during a Mercury Retrograde.  I wanted to wait until after the retrograde (and in this case, coincide the release with the New Moon which is also in Cancer) for several reasons, not the least of which is to make sure that you actually receive it! J

So, what's going on this month?

Humanity Experiencing Major Shift in Consciousness

Some claim, no?  And yet that is exactly what's happening at this point in human history.  Whether it's the revelation of the true meaning of the Mayan Calendar, the effects of the Global Consciousness Project, the manifesting miracles of The Secret/The Law of Attraction, the awareness of the need for reparation of our environment or social structures through the collective efforts of such individuals as Al Gore and Michael Moore - there is no longer any doubt but that society is undergoing a radical shift in consciousness.  We're beginning to see that there may just be a place for us in that Galactic Cosmos out there.  But are we ready for the Big Jump?

Regardless of what's occurring on a planetary or individual basis, what's happening has caused each of us to look within.

Such is the nature of Cancer and the Mercury Retrograde.  We're looking more at who we are as a society - as a species - by reflecting on the past, especially as it pertains to our home, family or anywhere where we may have left our hearts.

Enjoy!

Many Blessings,

~ Kat Starwolf

Spotlight on Cancer
6/21 - 7/22

Cancer is the 4th sign of the Zodiac, rules the 4th House of Home, Family, the Past and Emotions, and is symbolized by the crab or the glyph shown above.  Cancer's ruling planet is the moon, which symbolizes deep emotions. As expected, Cancers focus mainly on anything to do with the home, the family and the past.  They aren't always as forthcoming about their emotional needs, however.  Cancers can be sentimental, gentle, unpredictable, worriers, complex, gruff, generous, sympathetic, possessive, nostalgic, intuitive, passive-aggressive, shrewd, perceptive, imaginative, miserly and insecure.  They can sense if there's something not quite right in their sex life.  Even if there's nothing wrong. But don't tell them there's nothing wrong. They're fixers.  Even if there's nothing to fix.  If you love them, humor them, let them fix it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" means nothing to Cancer.

Happy Birthday Cancer!

Pluto and the Galactic Center
This first article is about a year old, but the information is yet timely since we're still experiencing the effects of Pluto conjuncting the Galactic Center.

Pluto will conjunct the Galactic Center this year for the first time in 248 years. The Galactic Center is the center around which a spiral galaxy such as our own galaxy, the Milky Way, rotates, in the center of which may be a "Black Hole. Although the conjunction is not exact until December 28, Pluto has been within one degree of this conjunction throughout 2006. Because of the rarity of this event, it could have great significance and astrologers are widely discussing its possible meaning.  Read More Here

There was an active argument on a listserve last year about whether or not eclipses have an effect on individuals. Some swear by eclipses and for others, like me, they make no impression whatsoever. It appeared to me from that discussion that the more lunar types with a Cancer emphasis or prominent Moon were most likely to experience an eclipse in their personal lives.

Those of us with planets at 25-30 degrees are most likely to experience this dynamic because we are being affected by the transit of Pluto over those points in any case. Pluto drives us relentlessly towards transformation, creating endings and new beginnings in order to align us more completely in our evolutionary journey. As it concludes its travel through Sagittarius, it is working to clear away the ideological debris in order to prepare for its entry into Capricorn where it will begin the transformation of the structures of government, wealth and mores.

Violence in the Natal and Synastric Chart

Predicting Violence In Relationship: Mars in Synastry  "We've all got violence in us given certain conditions. We also have a civilized veneer that disguises it from ourselves. So we need football, we need violent computer games and films, it gives some sort of expression to it. None of us are beings of light. We probably need the occasional war as well."

Elsa can be a bit much with her descriptions occasionally, but she is right as far as the astrology is concerned.  I don't agree with either Dharmaruci or Elsa that we probably need the occasional wars as well.  There are other ways to dissipate the anger rather than aiming it at another individual.  In fact, the last thing this poor planet needs is another war.  Instead, what we need are some constructive, non-violent outlets for our anger.  Got any ideas?  Let's hear them!  Check out my article When Planets Collide: Violence Indicators in the Natal and Synastric Chart and tell me what you think works best.  Your responses will appear in the August issue of the Astro-News Ezine.  Read More Here

When Planets Collide: Violence Indicators in the Natal and Synastric Chart  by Kat Starwolf    Have you ever wondered if there was a way to determine whether you and another are prone to be violent towards each other?  Have you noticed some alarming traits in someone with whom you've considered moving to the next relationship level? Have you considered withdrawing from a relationship because your Significant Other demonstrates signs which denote a Violence Indicator, Power Struggle, Classic Schism, Battlefield or Fatal Attraction connection? Noting the stressful placements of several key planets will arm you with the information you need to either facilitate the improvement of your current relationship, or steer clear of potential danger.

Sometimes there's just no way we can help the way we react to certain individuals who activate us.  Well, maybe we can control ourselves - if we choose to.  But oftentimes it's all we can do not to react. But the fact is, there are some individuals to whom we are instinctively drawn, and others by whom we are immediately repulsed and/or angered.  Read More Here

New Moon in Cancer, July 14:  First the Mercury Retrograde in Cancer, and now the New Moon on July 14th in Cancer.  With the Sun, Moon and Mercury all in Cancer, and the Moon being New, we'll all be delving into our closest relationships to determine their value.  What do you really want out of your life and close personal relationships?  The Mercury Retrograde was the time to re-evaluate; the New Moon is the time to make those changes.  Find out what Lisa Miller has to say about the New Moon in Cancer and how it will affect us, globally.  Read More Here

The Moon: The Psyche

The Moon is the smallest planet; it is smaller than the earth and is only 250,000 miles away from us; its influence on earth and its inhabitants is immense. The sexual urge in human-beings and animals is found to be intimately connected with the different phases of the Moon. In fact, the significance of the Moon is so great that it is called Chakshusi, eye-sight. The Sun and Moon are considered the two eyes of the universe. The Moon is so important in Hindu predictive astrology that it is used as an ascendant, and all transit predictions are made from the position of the Moon. The Moon's natal position decides the planetary periods and is a very powerful predictive technique that other astrological systems do not have. Read More Here

Balancing Your Emotions for More Satisfying Relationships by Kat Starwolf    Because of the emotional aspect of this month's sign, Cancer, no doubt there will be some who will find it difficult to even read this piece.  But do yourself a favor:  resist the urge to skip it.

Emotions can be a double-edged sword.  Balanced expression can help us to articulate more clearly, or the lack thereof can defeat the whole purpose of effective communication, thereby causing rifts in even the most placid of relationships.

While being too emotional is not good, not being emotional enough can cause just as many problems.   We all have emotions, including the most 'in-his-head' Gemini, who is a good example of this particular dilemma.  And believe me, it can be a dilemma.   Even Geminis with a stellium that includes Mercury (communication, intellect) and the Moon (emotions, intuition), though they feel more comfortable not feeling, innately know that something is missing: their emotions. Mercury Retrograde in Retrospect: An Astrological Quirk Brings Fear and Trembling to Some Corners of the Internet

As this nearly 12 year old New York Times article shows, Mercury Retrogrades can be, at the least, irritating.  While some might wish to believe that Mercury Retrogrades are just an astrologer's way of bringing in business, think again (or at least TRY to think again!).

This is just one more instance of how

amazingly accurate astrology actually is.  And notice that the first word of the article is misspelled, a common occurrence during a Mercury Retrograde (and I just misspelled Mercury while typing this!)

OF [sic] this column really does find its way into the paper this morning and these words are being read, consider it a triumph of will over destiny.

It is being worked on during the waning days of Mercury's retrograde motion, and since Mercury is the planetary representative of the Greek god of communications, and computers now fall under his sway, not even the world of high technology is free from his influence, at least according to generally accepted astrological principles. Prophecies & Cosmological Outlook

2012 & Beyond Religion aside, the prevalence of the so-called 'secular' predictions of imminant world-wide catastrophe uttered by such pronosticators as Nostradamus and the Maya, causes one to wonder:   Is there some truth to these predictions?  Especially since it seems that many of these ancient and not-so-ancient predictions have come to pass.  What, truly, is in store for us in 2012? Or possibly (according to some sources) as early as 2008?

Decoding the Past - Doomsday 2012: The End of Days   There are prophecies and oracles from around the world that all seem to point to December 21, 2012 as doomsday. The ancient Mayan Calendar, the medieval predictions of Merlin, the Book of Revelation and the Chinese oracle of the I Ching all point to this specific date as the end of civilization. A new technology called "The Web-Bot Project" makes massive scans of the internet as a means of forecasting the future... and has turned up the same dreaded date: 2012. Skeptics point to a long history of "Failed Doomsdays", but many oracles of doom throughout history have a disturbingly accurate track record. As the year 2012 ticks ever closer we'll speculate if there are any reasons to believe these doomsayers.

History Channel's Decoding the Past: Doomsday 2012 Preview (Video; 4 min, 53 secs):

The Road to 2012: Cosmic Download! While much of this article was a bit nebulous (a diplomatic way of saying 'out there'), there were a few nuggets of information.  According to Divine Cosmos.com, a few things we have to look forward to:

·         2012, or thereabouts, represents a POSITIVE moment of humanity's future.

·         Our solar system is moving into a higher-level zone of energy in the galaxy.

·         The shift will affect matter, energy, consciousness and biological life as we now know it.

·         This energy is where "thoughts become things," and that partially explains the rise in cancer - people's unhealed anger is projecting as tissue growth.

·         The Earth itself is a sentient being and is undergoing a graduation into the 'fourth density' positive, which is a realm of 'unconditional love'.

·         Humanity on earth will move into a realm that is one HUNDRED TIMES more harmonious than it is now.

·         We will have Ascended abilities such as levitation, telekinesis, telepathy, instant healing, time travel, et cetera.

·         All you have to do to 'graduate positive' is be slightly more interested in helping others rather than controlling them.

·         It is NOT death in the standard sense of the term, since you have Ascended and brought your body with you.

·         It appears that most people will spontaneously re-create the Earth, a' la the Matrix, once they go over.

On the Horizon, Political Outlook: As far as I'm concerned, 'politics' might as well be a 4-letter word.  (Alright, I know, it has 8 letters.)  However, I decided before I began this newsletter that a spotlight on world politics, and American politics in particular, was warranted.   Most everyone is concerned with the state of the world, and, it seems, most especially, with the state of the USA since it leads the pack.  So what does astrology have to say about the charts of our past presidents, and what can we expect in 2008?

Presidential Astrology: Who Will Win the US Election in 2008?  One way to compare the current candidates is by looking at the historical record. What patterns emerge when comparing the 42 horoscopes of the men who became President? Tabulating the Sun signs of the 42 presidents reveals nothing out of the ordinary. The Suns are fairly evenly distributed among the twelve signs. From a statistical point of view, the astrologer should look for the anomaly, the numbers that break any expected distribution. The most represented Sun signs are Aquarius and Scorpio, with five presidents each.  The least represented Sun signs are Aries, Gemini, and Virgo, with two each. These numbers are within expected statistical variance. Read More Here

Earth Changes Updates: Latest Weather Report: Southeastern US to Become Desert? Let's Think it Green!      Ok, this is a bit disconcerting.  I live in Tallahassee, Florida near the burned area shown on the map.  So I'm very well aware of how unbelievably hot it's been.  Not to mention how difficult it was to breathe the smoke from the recent forest fires, even though I'm at least a good 90 miles west of the fires. And maybe you Central and South Flordianites can handle the sweltering tropical temps, but this New Mexico girl is having a really difficult time with the heat and humidity here in the South.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look as though it's going to get much better any time soon. According to the MODIS satellite, the CURRENT conditions of our fair share of the US pie is rather grim:  several states are turning into desert because of the lack of rainfall.

What if we THOUGHT the parched land back to good, green health?  Based on the results of many of the experiments that have been conducted at Princeton University in their Global Consciousness Projects, Lynne McTaggart and friends of Living the Field and other mass consciousness organizations, we really can affect and effect our environment by thought.  Hence, the world-wide interest in The Secret/Law of Attraction, Abundance and other consciousness expanding programs and books.

Come on!  Join us in some Consciousness Expansion and think the South green again!

Science News:

The following article was one I picked up from the University of Virginia.  While the original article -- which was linked to the UV.edu server -- stated clearly that our solar system was part of another galaxy, the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy, the original link which I tested before sending out this month's ezine turned out to be dead when I attempted to verify the source. When I truncated the URL I was taken to a page which stated that the original article which was originally located on the UV website, was 'fallacious.'  This is a good example of fraud in science.  And while it's true that we shouldn't believe everything we read and that sources should be verified, what should one think or believe if the main source for that information is supposedly a 'respected' academic facility? Just goes to show that one really can't believe everything one reads, but that EVERY source -- no matter its seeming veracity -- is suspect until proven otherwise.

Scientific Proof Our Solar System Actually Part of Another Galaxy?  According to astronomers leading a major mapping project of the heavens sponsored by the University of Massachusetts, Humans not only may not be from here, but our solar system may not even belong to the Milky Way Galaxy. And is the fact that we're not oriented to the Milky Way Galaxy's ecliptic, indicative of the possibility that our astrological orientation is off as well? Considering that we're primarily influenced by the planets in our own solar system, it wouldn't seem to matter much which ecliptic we were oriented towards.  Saturn still retricts us, Uranus changes us, and Neptune causes us to be more spiritual and oftentimes seem as though we're in another world.  Or is that another galaxy?

Scientists Prove We Are Not From Here!   Imagine the shock of growing up in a loving family with people you call "Mum" and "Dad" and then, suddenly, learning that you are actually adopted! This same sense of shock came as scientists announced that the Sun, the Moon, our planet and its siblings, were not born into the familiar band of stars known as the Milky Way galaxy, but we actually belong to a strange formation with the unfamiliar name of the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy! Is Time Really Linear?  According to Dr. Michio Kaku, theoretical physicist and author of Parallel Worlds, A Journey Through Creation, High Dimensions and the Future of the Cosmos (to be reviewed in next month's Kat's Book Nook Reviews) experiments currently being conducted indicate that there is a high probability that our universe is not only one of many, but that multiple dimensions may, in fact, exist.  Could multiple dimensions also affect our concept of time? Jann Burner of Unexplained Mysteries.com conveys an interesting view of this theory in The Resonance Theory

Let me ask you to wrap your mind around the "idea" that TIME, as we perceive it, is not linear. It does not move from the past into the future like a highway. Nor does it begin on page one with something like "In the beginning" and end three hundred pages later with something like, "and they lived happily ever after." Read More Here

Evolution of ConsciousnessThe Merging of Science and Philosophy? Aristotle, Plato and Socrates might be turning over in their collective graves, but it looks as though Science with a capital S may finally be realizing that there is more to reality and to our perceptions of it than what literally meets the eye.  Carl Jung might  also be shedding a gleeful tear as he watches and listens from his Collective Unconscious as science in the form of physics' Superstring and M-theories, cast their dimensional net over the grids of our Universal Mind.

And isn't it interesting how the global consciousness seems to be permeated with the absolute desperation to understand Superstring and M-theory as well as the Law of Attraction and the true meaning of 2012?

Understanding String or M-Theory will be the key to unlocking the secrets to the Universe and to so much with which we thought we were familiar and which is going to change drastically in the very near future.  Something's coming true, folks, whether we want to admit it or not.  Whether you subscribe to the Biblical or the Secular version which includes the world's weather forecasters, you'll notice that there are lots of things occurring that were prophesied by Nostradamus, the Maya, the Hopi, the Tibetans, the Hindu, the Chinese, et al.   Of course, since we have no way of truly knowing if what we're being told about what's going on out there in the rest of the world, is actually happening, we can only guess at true reality.  Therefore, we'll have to take their word for what we're told.  Yet, how much of History is really History?  How can we truly know, since most of us can only see when utilizing the perceptions of another?

Do we really need a newspaper or  CNN to know what's going on?  It seems that Consciousness is catching up to us.  Could you possibly be The Hundredth Monkey?

For those who believe, no proof is necessary, for those who do not believe, no proof is possible.

For centuries it has been assumed that the material world is the 'real world', and that world of the mind somehow - in ways we know not how - arises from the world of matter. I believe this worldview is slowly, and inevitably, being turned inside out. We are being forced to the conclusion that mind is as fundamental as matter - in some ways, more fundamental.

The Superparadigm   The Copernican Revolution is the classic example of what Thomas Khun called a "paradigm shift". Current paradigms such as Darwin's theory of evolution, quantum theory, Big Bang cosmology, and the genetic code, are each dominating beliefs within a particular branch of science. But beneath these various worldviews lies an even deeper belief. It is the belief that the material world is the real world, and that space, time, matter and energy constitute the fundamental framework of reality. When we fully understand the functioning of this material world, we will, it is claimed, be able to explain everything in the cosmos.

Have they done it? Has the Theory for Everything or the Unified Field Theory finally been discovered? Read More Here

Kat's Kommentary Is The Truth Really Out There? The following is an extremely delicate subject, even for those of you who believe in astrology and metaphysics.  Fair warning:  your perception of reality is about to undergo a shift.

"It is my thesis that flying saucers are real and that they are space ships from another solar system. There is no doubt in my mind that these objects are interplanetary craft of some sort. I and my colleagues are confident that they do not originate in our solar system."  ~ Physicist, Hermann Julius Oberth, PhD (1894-1989; The father of modern rocketry)   Other quotes from famous personages in regard to UFOs.

Is there Life Out There? Almost Definitely Say UK Scientists  UFOs. Extraterrestrials. Many think that those who are part of the 'aliens-are-out-there' culture, must have a few screws loose. But do we really? Well, ok, so maybe I'm not a good example. But there are many other very credible individuals who believe, as well, because they've seen something with their own eyes. In fact, collective groups of credible people, some of whom are ex-presidents, have witnessed UFOs. Is it all mass hallucination? Are we all crazy? Read More Here

Kat's Book Nook Reviews This Month:  Emotional Intelligence: Why it Can Matter More Than IQ  by Daniel Goleman

I first picked up this twelve year old classic with the intention of learning something useful I could share with my clients.  However, I doubted that I could actually learn anything I hadn't already learned.

I was wrong.

Not only did I learn about how to be more emotionally intelligent myself, but I also learned that - had I known about the book back in 1995 when it was first published - I could have been saved the recurring emotional pain that I have continued to experience in my own personal life because of extreme trauma that occurred when I was a young teenager back in the late-60s through the mid-70s. Ask Kat Insightful Heart Relationship Advice Forum

Ask Kat is a discussion board format for adults who are looking for compassionate, sincere, and real advice about life, love, relationships, and all those hurdles we navigate in our lives.

Questions from the Insightful Heart Relationship Advice Forum:

Dear Kat:

I am very interested in astrology, which (I'm told) is

very unusual for a guy.  My wife is also interested, but on a whole different level.  Since she reads Sun Sign horoscopes, I've tried to tell her that those horoscopes are too general to give any specifically accurate information on daily transits and suggested that she look at a more personalized service.  The problem is, she believes that everything she reads in her horoscope is going to happen.  I was wondering if you'd be able to give some insight into the affect the planets have on us, and whether we should believe everything we read in our horoscope, even if it is personalized.

Neophyte Starman

=======================================

Hah, should I call you 'Neo'?!  What an excellent moniker!

Ok, Neo, here's the scoop on Sun Sign astrology:  for one thing, Sun Sign astrology is very basic.  The scientists who argue that astrology isn't a real science, are basing their opinions on the Sun Sign astrology columns.  Don't let the science guys fool you, I've talked to several scientists who believe that astrology is a pseudo-science, but none of them have yet convinced me that they truly know enough about how astrology works to effectively and accurately debunk it.  So, if they don't know enough about it, how can their view of its inaccuracy be accurate?

The bottom line is:  Sun Sign astrology such as is found in your daily newspaper and online sites, is based on ONE sign out of many in our natal birth charts.  Our birth charts are made up of eleven planets (the Sun, Moon and Chiron are considered planets in astrology), our Ascendant or Rising Sign, our North and South Nodes of the Moon, our Midheaven, and a few other points on the ecliptic which are not Zodiac Signs.  In other words, the Sun Sign is not the only planet or point which is used to calculate a person's personality and potential path through life.  So, while reading Sun Sign horoscopes can be fun, they are rarely ever anything more than that.

They're certainly not specific.  And, truthfully, not very accurate because of the lack of the multiplicity of planets and other astrological aspects otherwise involved.

On your wife's tendency to believe what her horoscope says:

that which is forecast in a horoscope - even in a personalized horoscope - is still only a possibility.  This is one of the reasons I call my forecast reports, 'Probability' forecasts.  While our natal birth charts or wheels are similar to blue prints of what our lives will most likely be like this time around, they are not set in stone.  We really do have free will, and can choose to follow what is set out for us (what we've scripted for ourselves in the In Between and which can be seen from our birth charts), or we can choose to follow another path.  Sometimes the choices we make are wise choices, sometimes they aren't.  But the ultimate reality is that at the end of the day, we're all responsible for our own actions.  And we are the ones who choose our actions.  Our actions aren't directed by the planets, so to speak, to direct our lives in every particular.

However, living by what your daily horoscope says will happen is not a good practice.  For one thing, you rob yourself of the spontaneity of life.  Being mentally and emotionally strapped to anything - even the belief that what our daily horoscope says must be the gospel - is usually not very productive and often creates other problems.  As I remind my clients, the configuration of the planets in relation to each other and to each of us here on earth is, again, only one possibility.  But it is not an absolute.  And, in truth (so far as I'm aware), we can choose only one of many possibilities.

If you want to follow your horoscope, that's fine.  But, is it really necessary to consult it every day?  Even being an astrologer, I don't look at mine every day.  I look at current transits, and I may look at someone else's current transit for the day, but I seldom look at mine.  I just don't like the idea of being tied to something on a daily basis. But, I also like surprises.  I don't want to know every single event that I've included in my script.  If I'm attempting to plan a specific event, I'll look at the transits for the day on which I wish the event to occur (if I have that much control).  Otherwise, if I look at my horoscope, it's usually after the fact.  And by that point, I usually am surprised.  As for believing everything that's written is going to happen:  again, these are possibilities based on the transits in comparison to your natal planets.  Just because something might happen, doesn't mean it will.  Use your common sense - and your imagination!

Many Blessings,

LORD OF THE WIND

Topiltzin cried

as his people died

His name engraved

on their lips.

With their dying breaths

As their blood flowed red

Giving their lives to him.

He hated the senseless slaughter

For a god who could not speak

The lives that were spent

like fodder,

Trampled in the street.

No more could he watch as a loved one

Gave his life for a dream,

While the spirits who reside in Xibalba

laugh at the dead who weep.

Yet year after year they followed

believing that if they gave

their hearts in loyal worship

Their nation they might save.

So Topiltzin cried

As his people

Banished him to the east

Never again to raise the Sun

Over the turquoise sea.

I will return, he promised

The prophecy you will heed

When the Sun and Moon are darkened

The time of the end, One Reed.
