From
health benefits to spiritual upliftment, from attracting love to
manifesting prosperity and success, gemstones have been and continue to be
used by many in an effort to make life more balanced, pleasant and
productive. The use of gemstones as a healing modality reaches as far back
as – and most probably pre-dates – recorded history. While most modern
allopathic medical practitioners scoff at the claims that many with lesser
academic certifications make regarding the health benefits of gemstones,
even the ancients knew that there is a great deal of truth in these
claims.
BUT,
Do Gemstones Really Work?
Quantum Physics tells us that the properties of anything in the known
Universe is made up of energy and that everything has its own vibratory
rate. It would follow, then, that gemstones are no exception. However,
the density of a mineral – otherwise known as gravity – varies from one
gemstone to another, as does the gravity or vibratory rate of anything
else in existence.
According to Amethyst Galleries at
Galleries.com,
“Specific gravity is a unit less measure, because it is derived from the
density of the mineral divided by the density of water and thus all units
cancel.” What I derive from this statement is that water makes up some
portion of the composition of a gemstone. In astrology, water is equated
with emotions. Further, water is a conductor and acts as a conduit for
such forces as electricity and electromagnetics. As we know, our bodies
are made up of water, function through the use of electricity and are
surrounded and permeated by an electro-magnetic field.
We
also know that, according to science, like attracts like. Because this is
true, it also stands to reason that certain gemstones will – based on
their molecular structure or vibratory rate – be attracted to and assist
with the realignment and balancing of various systems within the human
body. Not surprisingly, the evidence indicates that this is true, and
that gemstones must truly be efficacious for this very reason.
For
instance, hematite, a black stone with an almost silvery sheen, is known
for its ability to ground an individual, emotionally, and reduce
negativity. I can attest that this stone does, indeed, work in this
manner. Because I have several planets in the 12th house I am
prone to be ‘in my head’ and often ‘on another plane.’ Although I would
love to spend as much time as possible astral traveling or studying, it is
occasionally necessary to attend to more mundane affairs down here on the
earth plane. Due to this multiple 12th House placement I am
also prone to depression, another nasty side-effect of the 12th
House. Therefore, about a year ago I began wearing hematite to facilitate
grounding and positivity. My experience to date strongly indicates that
the hematite has and is functioning exactly in the manner in which it is
believed to work. Although I do occasionally have my ‘moments,’
especially when current transits are in challenging aspect(s) to any of my
12th House planets (the majority of which are in Leo), the
affect has only a limited duration and generally lessens as soon as the
transits pass. And, with the added impetus of the hematite, I feel so
much more grounded, able to concentrate and am emotionally brighter.
As
for the link between astrology and gemstones, after doing quite a bit of
research all over the Internet and in various rock and gemstone books I
have come to the conclusion that just about everyone has their own idea of
which gemstone fits best with any one particular zodiac sign. Yet, being
an empathic counseling astrologer, and knowing as I do that the signs are
merely one aspect of our natal charts that needs to be taken into
consideration when choosing appropriate gemstones, I strongly sense that
it is mandatory that each individual’s entire natal chart be looked at
before one or more specific gemstones are ‘prescribed.’
However, as a basic guideline I’ve compiled a chart that lists the
traditional stone for each sign, the arbitrarily and popularly designated
stone for each sign, and my own sense of which gemstone better fits with
each of the given signs based on that sign’s propensities and character
traits and characteristics. Because I am personally familiar with numerous
individuals from each of the zodiac signs, it has been fairly easy for me
to determine which stone(s) works best with which sign. The trick is to
balance the negative or problem qualities and areas, while enhancing
the beneficial qualities. Many of the stones listed as either traditional
or non-traditional, in my opinion, seem to do just the opposite of what
that sign needs, hence Starwolf’s Choice.

are my first choice; others are those stones I feel would benefit each
