Before we segue into the extremely informative article, The Influence of
Chiron, written by astrologer Karyl Jackson, I’d like to say a few words
about my own experiences with Chiron and why I sincerely believe that the
majority – if not all – of what has been written to date about this tiny
      asteroid is accurate.

As of this writing – April, 2007 – I am currently experiencing the
downward arc of what’s referred to in astrological circles as the Chiron
Return. The Return itself, officially began with my 50st birthday in
August of 2005. However, even though I began researching the Chiron Return
in approximately early 2005 and have since learned quite a bit about its
influence during the 50 to 51st years of life, I actually began
subconsciously and unofficially ‘preparing’ for its full impact as far
      back as 1999.

One of the main functions of the Chiron Return is to impel us to evaluate
our lives and past relationships to determine whether healing of any of
those past relationships is necessary and/or possible. This would make
sense, since Chiron is also known as the Wounded Healer.

Ironically, around February of 1999 – long before I knew anything about
Chiron or the Chiron Return – I developed a nearly overpowering compulsion
to contact my 2nd husband whom I left some twenty years previously due to
unresolved trauma from my childhood. The affects of events that had
transpired several years before we met culminated during our marriage
creating additional issues that ultimately drove me to leave.
Unfortunately, because of the affects of these childhood issues, I never
attempted to explain what was happening to me and why I felt it necessary
to leave, effectively leaving him in the proverbial dark about why I was
      really leaving.

Consequently, since our divorce, I continued to be haunted by this
desperately hurtful act, and strongly Sensed that I needed to contact him
to explain what had actually happened, and further assure him that my
reasons for leaving stemmed from those events which took place before we
met and not any actions on his part.

 Before continuing, three asides:
 1) I’m very well aware that there are
many of you who more than likely can’t fathom why I – or anyone else –
would contact an ex. I’ve had many people tell me that I should have just
left the past in the past; my ex-husband, included. However, please
remember that we are all different in the way we approach any issue,
relationships in particular. While I’m very well aware that there are many
who would not have followed my lead in this instance, there are just as
many who would have done exactly as I did. 2) Because of the nature of
many of my own issues, and the fact that my natal Chiron (which is
retrograde) is in Aquarius in the 6th House (the House of Service to
Others and Health) opposite the majority of my planets in Leo in the 12th
House, trine both my South Node of the Moon in Gemini in the 10th House
and my Neptune in Libra in the 3rd House and quincunx both my Uranus in
Cancer in the 12th House and my Mercury in Virgo in the 1st House (which
forms a Yod or Finger of God geometrical planetary formation, which is
significant), I feel that relating some of my own issues will assist those
who are experiencing similar issues themselves. 3) I sincerely believe
that my following this course of action was/is part of my Soul or Sacred
Contract, as referred to by Caroline Myss in her excellent work of the
same name. (Which, incidentally, I have only recently read and so did not
have the benefit of this knowledge when I began the journey through my
      Chiron Return.)
My point here is that, even without knowing that I was gearing up to
experience my Chiron Return, my Soul was very well aware of what I needed
to do and so prodded me to follow through approximately seven years before
my Chiron Return officially culminated, pulling me out of what essentially
began as a mid-life crisis, but has since turned into one of the most
      enlightening experiences of my life.

For those of you interested in learning more about Chiron and the Chiron
Return, two of the most prolific writers on the subject are
      Zane Stein
who wrote Essence and Application, A View From Chiron (for
specific information on the Chiron Return see Zane Stein’s explanation)
      and
Barbara Hand Clow who wrote, in my opinion, the definitive explanation
on the effects of this tiny planetoid in Chiron: Rainbow Bridge Between
      the Inner & Outer Planets.
